livesociyaPrivacy Policy
livesociya is an app for things happening around you right now: someone starts an event, people nearby see it, it ends. This page explains what we collect to make that work, why, who else touches it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version
- We collect what you give us (your Google sign-in, your profile, your events, messages and posts) and the minimum needed to run the app.
- We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use third-party analytics or trackers.
- We never ask for your device's location. Events carry your campus's location, not yours.
- Your data is stored with Google Firebase. You can ask us to see, correct or delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
livesociya (“livesociya”, “we”, “us”) runs the website and web app at livesociya.com. For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@livesociya.com.
2. What we collect
When you sign in
You sign in with Google. Google tells us your name, email address, profile photo and a unique account ID. We never see your Google password. Your email is kept in a private part of your account that only you can read; it is never shown on your profile.

Collected automatically
- “Active now”. While the app is open we record when you were last active, so people can see you're around. You can switch this off in Settings; then nothing is recorded.
- Timestamps and limits. When you post, message or start an event we store the time, and we keep a small counter per account to stop spam (for example, how often you can start events).
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) and Google Firebase keep standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the time of the request, for security and to keep the service running.
Stored on your device
The app keeps some things in your own browser so it starts quickly and works on a bad connection: an offline copy of data you've already loaded, names and avatars of people you've seen, your theme choice, and where you were in the app. These are not advertising cookies and are not shared with anyone. Signing out clears most of it; clearing your browser's site data for livesociya.com removes all of it.
What we don't collect
We don't ask for your device's GPS location, contacts, microphone or camera roll (photos are only what you choose to upload). We don't use advertising IDs, tracking pixels or analytics tools.
3. Why we use it
- To run the app: show events to people nearby, deliver messages, build your profile and your feed.
- To keep it safe: rate limits, blocking, handling reports, and suspending accounts that break our Terms.
- To fix problems and keep the service working.
- To meet legal obligations, such as responding to a lawful request from authorities.
We process your data on the basis of the consent you give when you create an account, and for the legitimate uses the DPDP Act allows (such as complying with law). We don't use your data to train AI models, and we don't make automated decisions about you that have legal effects.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal data. It is shared only with:
- Other users, as described in the table above — that's the point of a social app.
- Service providers who run the app on our behalf and may only use the data to do that: Google Firebase (sign-in, database and photo storage), Vercel (website hosting) and Google Fonts (typefaces; your browser requests them from Google).
- Authorities, when Indian law requires it, or when we believe in good faith it's needed to protect someone's safety.
Our database is hosted by Google in India (the Mumbai region). Uploaded photos, sign-in, website hosting and service logs may be handled on servers outside India. We only use providers that apply appropriate security safeguards, and we'll follow any restrictions the Government of India places on transfers.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account and what you've posted stay until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Stories disappear after the time you chose (2–24 hours).
- Finished events leave the Recap tab after 6 to 48 hours, but stay on the event page and on profiles as memories until they're deleted.
- A message you delete is replaced by “This message was deleted”; its text is erased, not kept.
- When your account is deleted, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something longer (for example, in connection with a legal claim or a report under investigation). Messages you sent to other people may remain in their conversations, shown without your profile.
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can:
- Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it's used.
- Correct or update it — most of it you can edit yourself in Settings.
- Erase it, by deleting content in the app or asking us to delete your account.
- Withdraw consent at any time. Doing so means we'll have to close your account, because the app can't run without the data.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
- Complain to us (see “Grievances” below), and if you're not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To use any of these, email support@livesociya.com from the email address on your account. We'll reply within 30 days, usually much sooner.
7. Children
You must be at least 13 to use livesociya. If you're under 18, you may only use it with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to this policy and our Terms on your behalf. We don't knowingly let children under 13 sign up, we don't show ads to anyone, and we don't track or build behavioural profiles of users under 18. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, or a parent hasn't agreed, email us and we'll remove the account.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by Google Firebase. Access is controlled by security rules that decide, on the server, who may read or change each record — for example, only the two people in a conversation can read it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we'll tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
10. Grievances and contact
Questions, requests or complaints about your data or anything on livesociya: support@livesociya.com. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days.
